ANJA KUZMIC (b. 2000) is a Croatian artist working between London, UK and Zagreb, Croatia. They received their BA in Painting from Camberwell College of Arts, UAL (2022) and MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London (2024).

Their work has been exhibited in a solo show in Poola Gallery in Pula, Croatia (A tenebris amnis, 2020), and group shows in Lauba, Zagreb (Nesvrstani, 2021), as well as Southwark Park Lake Gallery in London (We’re Watching You, 2022), the Creative Art Showcase in Bromsgrove (2022), the Take Courage Gallery in New Cross (No Longer, Not Yet, 2023), and most recently Lewisham Arthouse (Queering the Ghost, 2024).

Their practice consists of figurative oil paintings, ceramics and moving image works. Through these avenues they explore themes of transformation, queerness and biofuturity. They are interested in the practice of worlding imaginary futures, often drawing inspiration from the past. Through this process of historical unearthing and re-contextualisation, their work tries to invent a vision of the future teeming with safety, community and gender-non-conformity. Using methods of fantasy and science-fiction, they attempt to find and create gaps in time and space where queerness, intimacy and experiences of otherness can find a home and exist untethered to oppressive societal expectations.
